which of these two men should i choose?
1) My ex (relationship of around 3 years)- handsome, very loving, no past flings,we had physical r’ship which is fantastic,ready for marriage, talked to parents(They r not yet fully convinced),financially weaker than me,not very smart and confident,working at nominal position,very simple and plain, dying to get me back (not aware of my new r’ship,though skeptical)

5 month old can't sleep without a pacifier?
My 5 month old daughter recently started sleeping in her crib at night and i find myself going in 6-10 times a night to put her pacifier back in for her because she wakes up screaming. I tried to let her cry herself back to sleep for 15 Min’s and her screaming just escalated, once she got her soother she was out like a light. My sleep is deeply affected by this and I don’t know what to do.

You have 2 choices really. Either subtly make her lose interest in it over the week (give her something cool, new and interesting every time she wants her dummy or play hardball. Let her know that it;s gone and no amount of crying is going to replace it, at 5 months she will learn to adapt very quickly.

I know it must be hard for you because it’s your fragile, unfathomably precious infant but you it;s in your best interest (and hers) to just break this before it becomes an issue. My mother tells me that when I was a child I didn’t want to start a sippy cup but she played hardball and after a day or 2 I embraced the change. So this type of issue is probably extremely commonplace.

Good luck and remember that infants of all species are capable of rapid adaption.

Yes, you have certainly earned a night’s sleep by five months! Try this if you can stand it: If you KNOW that she’s not hungry or needs to be changed, then just swaddle her up and let her cry. If it doesn’t work, what have you lost?

But as for in the crib, once it falls out, there’s no going back in, unless I do it for her.

Now mind you, I’ve watched her as she’s falling asleep in her crib. When she’s juuust on the brink of going to sleep, she actually spits the pacifier out. I’ve tried putting it back in but she clamps her lips shut.

She gets up once through the night, but that’s unrelated to the pacifier, she just wants to feed.

Maybe when she wakes up, it’s out of hunger and not for the pacifier? Sure, once it’s back in her mouth she’s okay, but try feeding her and see how often you’re up with her after that.

My 'tiel bites himself, vet has given up, help?
I used to have 2 ‘tiels, Ryu and Ete. We fed them pellets recommended by our veterinarian and greens. When they were about 2 Ryu started biting at his back, screaming while he was doing it. He would dig the feathers out and make his back bleed. He’s been tested for mites and parasites, all negative. We’ve had to put a bubble collar around his neck. About a year ago we gave Ete back to the breeder because he was becoming a nuisance to Ryu and more and more unfriendly to us. We thought the stress of Ete might have caused Ryu to bite himself so we tried taking the collar off then. He was fine for a few days then he started up again and we had to put it back on. When we gave Ete back we also tried switching Ryu onto seeds, because he wasn’t eating the pellets as much and never really liked the greens. With his bubble collar on he can still reach his back but he won’t bite it. He grooms himself normally. Our vet has given up, saying it’s probably a compulsion. Ryu is 4, almost 5 now and I’d hate him to have to wear the bubble collar for the rest of his life.

Soccer/ Football, I don't get the point. Help a girl out!?
Help me understand why my husband is in to soccer/ football. He supports a team in the city we live in, Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The team is PSV. I don’t understand how he can support a team that is constantly changing, different players from different cities and different countries. Almost all of the players are foreign. Actually from a different county.

I totally get college basketball, football, enz… where the players are really going to a certain school and they are really representing that school, but I get lost when a team is formed on the basis of money purchasing the best player they can afford. And then, these people playing, not for the representation of a city or a club, but for money, we are supposed to support? Because they are paid to wear the shirt of our team?

I just really don’t get it. If they were all players from the city I live in, then I get it. But they aren’t. Half of them don’t even speak the language.

If I were to support this team, what for?

Sorry, I’m just a girl and I am already not too interested. But this fact makes it even more difficult for me to share the enthusiasm of my husband.

What am I not seeing that he does? What am I missing out on?

I guess as a woman I just look for a little more meaning in what I support. To me, a club is nothing but money and they stand for nothing but money. Players, are the slaves of this club.

But the first answer here has said what I already thought. Men really are just that simple. Name is everything. Who cares who represents it or how much money is paid for it. They are paid to represent a name. Thus they support it. I give thumbs up for this answer, yet I still don’t get it.

I guess all men need to hear is that their "name" did well and they feel good. It doesn’t matter how they got there.

I can't tell if there will be a future with us… can you help?
wWe met over christmas break and got to know eachother. then at the end of christmas break i had to go back to college 4 hours away and i asked him what he wanted and what he thought about us and he said that it was hard to start a relationship when i had to leave, which i completely understand and respect. we have texted almost everyday but the conversations are only like 5-10 mins and there is not much depth to them. he says that he wants to see me but never acts like it and i dont like feeling like i am being led on. i broke down one day and told him that i have been trying to keep this "friendship" or whatever going but i just dont feel like it was working. because i was the one that was texting him first and stuff. well after that he started texting me more but there still is absolutely no sign of commitment at all at least i havn’t seen it. maybe it is my insecurities but i mean i dont know how else to try or even if i should anymore… I really really really like him but sometimes i feel like i might be annoying him… and also i want him to get to know me too i feel like i know alot more about him than he does me and that also makes me feel like he doesn’t care… but my thoughts are why would he even almost try if he didn’t think that there could be a future… i dont know how to deal with this PLEASE HELP!!

I tried to find the total number of bridge hands that contain exactly five hearts by doing this

Select the suit (Hearts)

{4 choose 1}

Select the cards from the set of all Hearts (13 cards in a suit select five of them)

{ 13 choose 5}

Choose a non-heart suit (clubs, diamonds, spades)

{4 choose 3}
Then select the other cards from all the other suits {13 * 3 = 39 non-heart cards}

{39 choose 8}

I choose 8 to get a full bridge hand.

So my answer is

{ 4 C 1} * {13 C 5} * {4 C 3} * {39 C 8}

To get the probability I divide by

{52 C 13}

Are these steps correct or am I missing or misapplying something ?

The reason is the multiplications by 4C1 and 4C3. In this problem, there’s no question of selecting suits at all. Their effect on the calculations is represented by the division of the deck into hearts and non-hearts.

There are 13 hearts, of which we want 5.
There are 39 non-hearts, of which we want 8.

So the probability is simply
13C5 * 39C8 / 52C13
which you can obviously calculate, so I’ll leave that to you.

unsupportive husband during pregnancy?
My husband and I tried for a while to get pregnant with our first together(my 2nd). To the point where we were starting to get a bit worried about things, but by the Grace of God I did end up pregnant! He was really great the first 2-3 months, and now all of the sudden the past couple months he’s turned into some kinda selfish monster. I do talk to him and communicate how I’m feeling. I’ve been having problems with swelling and pain in my feet and legs from early on. I’m 20 weeks now. I also have a history of back problems due to sports when I was younger. I am in my late 20s he is in his early 30s. It’s all I can do to get him to help me out at home and with other things. Now I’m being told, well you aren’t as fragile as you wanna think you are. I work 6 days a week he works 4, I don’t get much time to rest and relax with my works schedule and an almost 5 year old. All he does is grip and complain anytime I ask him to do something, which isn’t much, things like doing dishes, taking out trash, feeding dogs, and clean out cat litter. That’s all I ask him to do. Well he does it once every couple weeks if I’m lucky. He complains that I don’t keep the house clean, and housework and laundry are behind. Then comes to bed at 4 or 5 in the morning, no he doesn’t work nights, and wants to sleep all day only to get up and play his computer and games all day. I’m a tired person, borderline anemic, which thankfully it’s been fine, but I have days I’m super tired more so then I was not pregnant. When he comes to bed at that time in the morning it wakes me up b/c he is not careful not to wake me, and loud as can be. Being a mommy already I’m a light sleeper. And now being pregnant it’s takes almost an hour for me to get comfortable enough to fall asleep so when I get woke up I’m lucky if I fall back to sleep. I get up at 8 every morning take my child to pre school/day care. I have a couple hours to rest and relax and be to work till 5pm. Then I get off work, soon as I walk in the door mommy I need this honey I need that. Now with my child I can let it slide cause there’s only so much a 5 year old can do for themselves, but a 32 year old man, he won’t cook for himself or pick up after himself. When I ask him to rub my feet he just complains and I’m lucky if he does it, and on top of this I still usually have to do the few little things I ask him to do. I’ve tried talking and he just gets defensive and it causes a fight. I have BP problems while pregnant and with my first I was on bed rest the last two months, I’m trying to keep from that happeneing again, but the way it looks I have maybe a month left before I’m put on bed rest. What else can I do, I can’t just let my house get nasty. Oh and the best thing this morning when he came in to bed and woke me up I was told ‘just close your eyes and fall back to sleep it’s not that hard." argh.
Thanks, glad I’m not the only one. He didn’t use to be like this. I have tried to tell him I need help, I mean begged and pleaded, he’d be good for a day. Don’t worry I don’t clean out the litter all the time, I’ve done it maybe three times with gloves on then scrubbed my hands afterwards. I know what the problems are with that I’m just exhausted all the time. I try to be understanding that this is a big change for him, he’s never had a child to care for, I’m the one my daughter always wants anyway. My first pregnancy even with the high BP was very stress free. Her father was really great, and is still a great father. My husband says when the baby gets here he’ll help, but I believe it when I see it. When I say something to his mom or sister trying to get them to talk to him they just make excuses for him. He’s always had them to take care of him, and doesn’t know how to be a man on his own.

I don’t know what to tell you. If you’ve stated your case and made your points and he still insists on being a dick, I don’t know what other cause of action you have other than a marriage counselor or ultimatums or something.

He’s completely useless to you as he is right now. I don’t know if it will be helpful, but is there someone else you can stay with? Really, anything to get you out of that terrible environment.

If this were me, I’d threaten to leave. Put your foot down and tell him to grow the *!@&% up. It’s not all about him, he’s not 13 years old, this isn’t college anymore. He is NOT a typical man; no man I know behaves this way. Do you have friends or family you can turn to? Go on bedrest and your income will be cut severely - that ought to be a wake up call to him that you can’t do it all right now, at least not without his help.
